Wetland
Every year or so, Nixon Park in York County changes its touch room theme. This year it is Wetlands. I got to do this mural for one wall. This time we created a portable mural, done on a signboard material similar to masonite. I mainly used house paints (latex from the hardware store) with some additional acrylics (tube paints found in art/craft stores). The latex house paint is quite opaque and doesn't play well with others: when you mix it, its high white content creates chalkiness or muddiness. Acrylics are translucent and mix beautifully. But it's expensive to buy enough acrylic tube paints for a whole wall!
This is a typical southern PA/upper Chesapeake Bay watershed wetland. The emphasis is on baby animals (look for the nests, eggs and young).
Here's the mural in various stages... yes, the photos are awful, I was working in a cramped basement under clip lights! Bleah.
At the end of the slideshow, there are plenty of pics from the touch room right before it was finished and opened. Very small room with fluorescent lighting, still hard to get good pics!
