Stardate: Sassafras River, Maryland, 2017
On our last expedition, we discovered the effects of climate change as we watched our frozen water bottles in the holds of our boats turn to tea water, and nearly passed out trying to load four boats on the back of one pickup truck.
This year I did a scouting mission, 20170706, to ascertain the conditions...

The conditions were more favorable than last year, so the crew increased for the second expedition... also included, my second blue boat, the Tardis (wibbly wobbly, timey wimey). We loaded on two cars for more efficiency in loading and unloading. Frozen water bottles are a bonus (as well as frozen water in a cooler for afterwards) and getting into and out of the water quickly (it's cooler on the water) is important.
Friends Dave and David brought one boat, I brought Mak-eh-nuk's Fin and the Tardis. The two kayaks on top of the van make a shape rather like an upside down waka (double hulled voyaging canoe). David paddled the Tardis. We discovered hidden beaches, cool water, a hidden tidal pond full of lotus, wildlife from black vultures (beach bums) to great blue herons to tiny things on and under lotus leaves. Even a fantastic moth in the parking lot of a gas station.
Oh, and some dragons and Elves.
