Lasse Lanta
(leaf-fall)
..."long are the waves on the last shore falling, sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling, in Eressea, in Elvenhome, which no man can discover,l where the leaves fall not, land of my people forever"... with those words, Legolas, son of the King of the Elves of northern Mirkwood, faithful companion to Our Hero Aragorn, friend of the Hobbits who saved Middle Earth from impending Doom (by dropping the evil ring into Mount Doom), walks out of the epic tale of the Lord of the Rings. In one of Tolkien's languages of Middle Earth (he was a linguist, and the tales grew out of his love for language), autumn is "leaf-fall" or lasse lanta. I am a summer person, a Leo, born in August, I prefer simmering in summer sun on a beach somewhere.
I hate fall.
The Long Dark approaches. The Sun fades. I want to eat the planet and go into hibernation. But my huskies won't let me, they shriek and scream and leap at the chance to go racing down the trail in the dropping temperatures, dragging me (literally, on a rig) behind them. So, I'll celebrate the season, just a bit, with a closer look at the first harbingers of fall. These dropped at Nixon Park in early September, when the temperatures were still in the 90s, and the humidity was around 100 %. Still... looks like the end of summer...
