One translation of either Chincoteague or Assateague was "running water in between", probably a bad translation of the Native tongue. either way, there is a lot of "in between" water, marshes and shallow bays and Tom's Cove. Here you can hitch a ride on a tour boat or launch your own kayak to explore the marsh edges, hidden beaches, and wildlife on the edges of Chincoteague and Assateague. Be aware of wind, tide and weather if paddling, and have survival gear on board, even if going out for a few hours.
