Legolas and Hwin
On the heels of the Lord of the Rings films in the early 2000s, Toy Biz did some fabulous action figures. I will not admit to how many Legolases I own. He is my favorite fictional character of all time (from reading the books in 1978). He fits the Breyer Traditional Scale horses nicely, and is articulated and detailed.
Hwin is a retired Breyer, based on Elisa Wallace's mustang mare. Elisa has a fascinating youtube channel where she documents her eventing life and the training of mustangs for eventing, which includes dressage, stadium jumping and cross country jumping. Hwin was part of a Mustang Makeover competition, and when I saw her at Tractor Supply I has no intention of buying a model.
Then I read her story and was in tears because that's what I always wanted to do with MY mustang.
Elisa also evokes the "Elvish way with all good beasts" demonstrated by Legolas in The Two Towers, when he acquires a warhorse "smaller but restive and fiery" from the Rohirrim. He leaves saddle and bridle behind and rides bareback and bridleless through the rest of the tale. In her mustang competitions, Elisa often rides without saddle or rein (only a neck line) and does some advanced work like jumping and dressage moves on mustangs who have only been in work for several months.
If you tune into Elisa's channel, Hwin may no longer look like this... she is a grey and will eventually turn white.
