Planet Marsh
Marshes, salt or brackish, protect shorelines, prevent flooding, provide massive habitat, and are among the most nutrient rich environments on the planet. Sadly, humans have spent centuries draining and building over them. Now we know their value, maybe we can change that...
Here' are some shots over the bow from my favorite marshes: Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge, Assateague and Chincoteague Islands, and others. Lifeforms range from macroinvertebrates, best found with a fine mesh net, to jellies and crabs and fish, to herons, egrets and gulls, to the wild ponies of Assateague. The richness of the marsh and its surrounding waters supports them all.
