ponies in motion
Some action shots of Svaha and Lily free lungeing in the Hickory Yard. I use voice commands and the training wand to encourage forward movement... and pony treats to reward stops and "come here". Both know voice commands. Both are redheaded mares and may or may not pay attention to them.
Svaha is my 25 year old Mustang/Arabian mare out of Lor, my Mustang mare (the black mare seen on other pages). Svaha is still in partial winter coat and quite fuzzy. She is technically a large pony at 14.2 hands. She is a classic bay.
Lily is the neighbor's mini pony. She is about 7.2 hands (30 inches) at the withers. While some breeders have insisted on "mini horse" as a marketing ploy (it sounds cool), anything under 14.2 is a pony, no matter the breed. Horses and ponies, and minis come in various body types from slender (like an Arabian) to chonky (Shetlands, Halflingers, Gypsies, Belgians for instance). Body type has nothing to do with size. Lily is a chestnut, with flaxen (mane, tail, lower legs are blond), but also a tobiano pinto (which makes half her mane and half her tail white)... add to that some roaning typical of some tobianos.
These shots are all in order of the action. The next slide will be the next moment in the movement. The first frame of each action is labeled as to gait: walk, trot, canter (canter sometimes stretched to gallop). One buck and snort.
